It all started in Medieval Art History
I’ve been working with metal leafing for over ten years. I first fell in love with the reflective qualities of metal leafing when I studied Medieval art in college. Colors and light bounce back to the viewer and translucent colors seemingly glow. These were the same qualities I loved about Rothko’s work. His colors glowed from the large projected images in Modern Art History class. Admittedly I was disappointed by my first viewing of a Rothko. The colors didn't glow as I anticipated. But always in the Medieval wing of the same museum the quality and color of the work never disappointed, though the content of Madonnas and cherubs soon became tiresome.
