Scapes

It all started with Entropy...

The Scapes series was the natural progression from the series, Entropy. While the series Entropy evolved, references to water, land, and sky began to emerge. These images were not of a particular place or time. And often, one element was indistinguishable from another, with the viewer often making the final reference. I attribute the interplay and merging of the elements, land, sky and water to my painting process. I never determine beforehand what it is I am painting but letting the process take over. Despite the landscape-like reference, I consider the work abstract by not referencing a place or time and letting the biomorphic shapes to self evolve.

My feeling is that when one is concerned about a particular idea or problem it manifests in what you create. And for the last few decades becoming more environmentally aware has inevitably found its way into my work. The artist shouldn't let themselves get in the way of the image, it is best to let it happen. And then, in the end, determine and edit what has emerged.
