Rojos

This series of oils and Mixed Media paintings were started in 2008 and continues.  this is one of my favorite colors.

In the series “Rojos” I attempt to create a presence of transcendent possibilities, of the self beyond the physical limitations. Where there is no boundary between air, light and a physical mass. I kept the palette limited to mostly Reds, giving a wide breadth of the color and its vibrant and varied tones. Red represents life, excitement, energy, passion, desire, speed, strength, power, heat, love, aggression, danger, fire, blood, war, violence, aggression, and all things intense and passionate. 

This oil series is probably the purest, meaning there is no gold leafing and marble dust, though there is some use of graphite powder. I used a wide range of reds, one of my favorite colors, and used glazing to develop the richness and variations of the reds.
